“Cooperation between our countries has years of tradition. We still want to develop it, in particular with regard to new investments in the IT sector”, said Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy, Waldemar Pawlak during the meeting with representatives of the Korea International Trade Association on 4 June at the Ministry of Economy.
Deputy Minister Pawlak stressed that many Korean companies had operated in the Polish market. “We are happy that corporations such as Daewoo or Philips invest in Poland”, he noticed. He also mentioned the Centre for Research and Development built by Samsung in Warsaw last year. “The Centre employs more than 200 Polish specialists”, the Deputy Prime Minister added.

The KITA President, Hee-Beom Lee, was satisfied with the operations of the Korean companies in Poland. He also mentioned the meeting which took place on the same day with representatives of the Business Centre Club. “We signed a letter of intent on mutual support of investments in the field of trade and services”, Mr Lee added.

Discussed topics included issues related to the steel industry, power industry, and the LNG terminal to be built in Świnoujście.

The Korea International Trade Association (KITA) is the biggest economic organisation in the Republic of Korea, with 66,000 member companies from the trade, service and industrial sectors. The Association is chaired by Hee-Beom Lee, a former Minister of Economy of the Republic of Korea. The KITA supports development of the international trade, investment activities of the Korean companies, research services and education of international trade specialists. In addition, the KITA organises international fairs and trade missions. According to estimates, the value of the Korean investments in Poland was nearly €1.7b at the end of 2007.
