Deputy Prime Minister Pawlak at the Energy summit in Saudi Arabia

Factors contributing to growth of oil prices and solutions aimed at curbing their negative impact on the global economy were the main issues discussed at Jeddah Energy Summit in Saudi Arabia. Polish Deputy Prime Minister, Waldermar Pawlak, attended the Summit at the invitation of Ali I. Al.-Naimi, the Oil Minister of Saudi Arabia.

Participants of the Summit discussed reasons for oil price growth to USD 140 per barrel. Representatives of governments, international organizations and the oil sector discussed solutions aimed at alleviating the global pressure caused by high commodity prices.

Among others, the Summit resulted in declaration that Saudi Arabia would increase oil production and the postulate of closer international cooperation in terms of transparency of the oil market data. Also stressed was the need to support developing countries, mostly affected by high commodity prices.

The Jeddah Energy Summit was held on 22 June 2008. The Deputy Prime Minister, Waldemar Pawlak, was the only invited representative of the Central and Eastern Europe states. The Summit was also attended by, among others, the King of Saudi Arabia, Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al Saud, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Gordon Brown, the United States Secretary of Energy, Samuel Bodman, Vice President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, as well as representatives of OPEC, the International Energy Agency, the International Monetary Fund and the European Union.
