International economic cooperation
Department of International Economic Cooperation is responsible for matters related to co-ordination of economic co-operation with non-EU countries, in connection with the goals of the government economic policy.
The main tasks of the Department are as follows:
- analysing the condition, trends and prospects of economy as well as economic and social policy of Poland’s partners from the point of view of their influence on economic relations with Poland;
- preparation of assumptions and directions of the development of economic relations with Poland’s economic partners and current attendance to the needs deriving from economic relations with these partners;
- preparation and negotiation of economic agreements as well as handling issues related to the co-operation with the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA) and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA);
- monitoring of the execution by partners of the concluded agreements and of the partners’ trade policy from the point of view of their consistency with obligations deriving from the membership in WTO, CEFTA and EFTA;
- accession of new members to the World Trade Organisation (WTO);
- preparation of meetings of bilateral, intergovernmental commissions, committees, working groups and consultations concerning economic issues;
- supervision over the activity of economic and trade divisions of the Polish embassies in non-UE countries;
- participation in the works of committees and working groups of the Council of the European Union within the scope of trade policy towards non-UE countries;
- carrying out the works related to necessary legal adjustments concerning economic relations with third countries in the context of the preparation of Poland’s accession to the European Union.
